The Capital Program Review Committee was established by the Village Trustees in 2012 to examine all of the Village of Essex Junction's municipal capital needs (streets and highways, water, vehicles, buildings) and develop a prioritized list of capital improvement projects. The Capital Program Review Committee is comprised of two members of the Board of Trustees, one member of the Planning Commission and three citizen volunteers. If you have any questions about the committee, please contact the Village office at 878-6944.
The Village Board of Abatement is made up of the Village Trustees, the Justices of the Peace that reside in the Village, and the Village Clerk/Treasurer. The Board of Abatement considers requests from taxpayers for abatement of taxes based on the criteria listed in Vermont Statutes Title 24, Section 1535. The Village Board of Abatement can only consider requests pertaining to the Village portion of the property taxes. Requests for abatement of taxes can be addressed to the Village Treasurer.
Five citizens from the Village of Essex Junction appointed by the Board of Trustees make up the Zoning Board of Adjustment. They meet at 6:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month, if there are applications to review. The main responsibility of the Zoning Board is to review conditional use applications to determine if they conform to certain elements of the Village Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. The Board is also responsible for considering, on an individual basis, whether variances to the zoning regulations should be allowed. The Board also hears appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decisions. Questions regarding any zoning issue may be directed to the Development Department at 878-6950 or contact us via the form on the Contact Us page.
