The City Council of Essex Junction is pleased to announce that Regina Mahony has been selected as the first City Manager for the City of Essex Junction. Mahony, the current Planning Program Manager for the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, was approved by the City Council at a special meeting on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Her first day at the City office will be September 15, 2022.
"I am deeply honored to have Regina become the first City Manager for the City of Essex Junction," said Andrew Brown, City Council President. "As we enter this stage of creating our city, Regina's experience will be invaluable, and she is exactly who the City of Essex Junction needs."
Mahoney will guide the newly formed City through a transformative and exciting chapter in the community's 130-year history. Some of the first projects she will be responsible for include working closely with the City Finance Director to develop the first City budget as the City completes the process of disengaging its finances and shared municipal operations from the Town of Essex. Mahony will also oversee multiple infrastructure projects, implement a recently approved sales tax, and re-envision the 19th-century downtown as a well-designed, thriving, family-friendly, walkable urban center.

"I'm excited to work with the Council, staff, residents, and businesses to address the capital needs of the City and continue on the path of making Essex Junction a vibrant, welcoming, and safe community."
Mahony will become the first ever City Manager for Vermont's 10th and newest City. The City of Essex Junction was formed on July 1, 2022, after the then Village of Essex Junction passed a new City Charter with 88 percent of community support to separate from the Town of Essex. The Charter was passed in the Vermont House and Senate and signed by Governor Phil Scott in April 2022.
