The Essex Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy is a program created to bring the relationship between the Essex Police Department and the citizens they protect and serve closer together. Their goal is to give people a glimpse of what their officers learn at basic training in the academy, VT Laws, our working partnerships with non-law enforcement agencies, and the ongoing trainings officers have each year. Their hope is, upon completion of the program, participants will seek out volunteer opportunities within the department at functions Essex Police partake in each year. Career positions such as Officers and Dispatchers, or seasonal positions such as Parks Patrol may be available and may interest those who participate in the Citizens Police Academy*.
*Participation nor completion of this program does not grant participants any law enforcement powers, it will give you a glimpse into who they are and what they do at the Essex Police Department.
Join us for our second Citizen’s Academy. The academy will run over the course of eight weeks with one 3-hour class per week for a total of twenty-four training hours. The class will start October 30, 2023, on Monday evenings from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
