The City of Essex Junction recently recognized the outstanding efforts of its first responders during an Essex Junction Fire Department meeting with the City Council in attendance on July 8, 2024. The City Council commended the brave men and women who went above and beyond the call of duty to save lives in our community.

Fire Chief Chris Gaboriault presented Life Saving Awards to Engineer Tim Miller, Lt. AJ Leclair, Engineer Bob O’Neill, FT/EMT Alex Siego, and Lt. Stephen Gragg, who were honored for their exemplary display of CPR skills during a critical incident on March 3, 2024.

Additionally, EMT Grace Lapointe, Captain Vincent Westphal, EMT Cassie Rivers, Lt. AJ Leclair, FF Scot Bushey, FF/EMT Alexis Lyman, and FF/EMT Alex Siego were also recognized for their exceptional teamwork and life-saving efforts during a separate incident on March 25, 2024.

In both incidents, their quick response and coordinated actions were instrumental in saving the life of an individual in need. Thanks to the dedication and professionalism of these first responders, the individuals in both incidents were able to regain a pulse and receive the necessary medical care. The City of Essex Junction is proud to honor these heroic individuals for their selfless service and commitment to preserving life in our community.

“The EJFD is a busy crew,” said Regina Mahony, City Manager. “These awards almost didn’t happen as the Fire Department was called out just when the meeting started, and then they were called out again right afterward. The City Council and I witnessed the rapid response of the fire department on a hot and humid evening, which further reiterates the appreciation for these folks whose dedication and service ensure the safety of the residents of the City.”
