The Village of Essex Junction has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of our commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the fourth consecutive year the Village has received this award.
The Village Trustees had the following to say about receiving this honor, “The Village of Essex Junction is proud of its Tree City USA designation for the 4th straight year. It attributes that success to the unwavering stewardship of the Essex Junction Tree Committee, the dedicated Village Public Works Department and the support of the Village Trustees. The Village would not be the exceptional community it is without its trees and their many contributions to improving the streetscape and environment.”
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Essex Junction achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
