Interview with Silvio Mazzella, Owner
Jules on the Green is full-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch & dinner all day - American Rustic style with a European flair as well as being aware to food intolerances and allergies and 100% peanut/tree nut free. Owner Silvio, his wife and daughter each have food allergies, and as a result, the family has had difficulty finding places to eat out. Silvio told me that he once took his entire family out for a Mother’s Day brunch, only to find that the kitchen staff was unaware of how to handle their food allergy needs. The family left hungry after just eating salad-not the best way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Silvio opened Jules on the Green after realizing that his family must not be the only ones continually facing these problems when trying to enjoy a meal out of their home.
After reading reviews on Facebook, it is clear that other families can relate to this problem, “We went here today after going to another nearby restaurant and realizing they had nothing that my son could eat due to several food allergies! Eating out is so stressful and frustrating. The other restaurant sent us to Jules on the Green and it was awesome! There were so many choices for my son and even dessert too for him which never happens! This will be our go to spot when we are in the area! He left with a full belly and a smile on his face!”
On Wednesday, April 3rd Jules on the Green will be celebrating their 2nd anniversary. They will be offering free cupcakes all day. I told Silvio that this was a very dangerous thing to be telling a pregnant woman, however, he seemed undeterred. Jules will also be offering specialty drinks throughout the week to celebrate, as well as a “lollipop garden.” Customers at Jules will be able to choose a lollipop at every visit, each offering a surprise discount.
Silvio is offering “Why Essex?” readers $5 off of the purchase of a VIP membership. This normally retails for $35 and provides a 10% discount each time you dine in or order take out at Jules. This discount also applies to private events held in Jules’s banquet space, the Maple Room.
Jules is located at 1 Commonwealth Avenue in Essex Center, on the corner of Rt. 15 and Old Stage Road. Why Essex? “My family has food allergies, and we were having difficulties finding a restaurant where we all could eat out and be able to enjoy the food. I have had experience in the restaurant industry and decided to open a food allergy friendly neighborhood restaurant in the community that we live in.” –Silvio Mazzella
