The Village of Essex Junction announces the start of the Crescent Connector Phase I Project; the rail line upgrades. The Contractor will be mobilizing equipment and materials to the site starting on Monday, June 6, 2022, completing this phase by Friday, June 10, 2022. The mobilization process should have minimal impact on traffic and the access to the businesses in the surrounding area.
The project will focus on upgrading the existing railroad tracks, making them smoother and safer to cross. These upgrades will require the following streets to be closed to ‘thru traffic’; at the rail crossing on Central Street, Main Street, Maple Street, the two crossings on Park Street and South Summit Street. Closures will happen one street at a time. The roadway crossing closures will be for a period of 4 days, starting on Friday morning, and opening to traffic on Monday afternoon. Updates will be provided as the work progresses and road closure dates will be provided by the Village Engineer.
Please note that construction work schedules may be fluid in nature and work tasks may change due to weather, equipment/material availability, etc. We will do our best to keep you up to date as things change.
The first street to receive a new and improved rail crossing is Central Street. Currently work dates for this location are June 17 to June 20. From this point work will move south to other streets through the Village Center.
