The City of Essex Junction is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Community Formula Grant of $228,856 from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources through the Department of Environmental Conservation's Clean Water Initiative Program. This grant will enable the City to advance vital stormwater management projects and make significant strides toward phosphorus reduction as outlined in the City's Phosphorus Control Plans.

The City plans to utilize this grant to design a project in the Main Lake watershed by September 2026. A key aspect of this project involves designing a stormwater infiltration system along West Street which will be implemented as part of the City’s stormwater capital planning. This innovative system will redirect stormwater flow from existing catch basins to a treatment practice designed to allow stormwater to naturally infiltrate the ground. This method will replace the current practice of discharging stormwater through an outfall, supporting the City's phosphorus reduction goals. The project is estimated to cost $1 million to design and build.
