As we approach the General Election, the City Clerk wants to provide residents with important information to ensure everyone is well-informed. Check out the most recent episode of Junction City News with City Clerk Susan McNamara-Hill, where she discusses information you may need before election day. The show skips forward in the beginning and misses the first question about when the polls are open and where Essex Junction residents vote. Polls in Essex Junction will be open on Tuesday, November 5, from 7 AM to 7 PM at the Champlain Valley Exposition (Fairgrounds) in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion Building.
Traffic Pattern Change for Voters:
For voters entering the Champlain Valley Exposition during the election, the main entrance will allow entry only one way; when exiting, voters will use the gate past the shopping centers, leading them out by the VFW. Traffic assistants will be there to help with directions.
Voting:
The State of Vermont mailed ballots to all active registered voters as of September 23. Voters can return their ballots by mail, deliver them to the City Clerk's Office through November 4, or submit them at the polls on Election Day. For those needing to deliver ballots after hours, a drop box will be available outside the City Offices at 2 Lincoln Street until November 4. If you plan on voting in person, PLEASE bring the ballot that was mailed to you to the polls. If you don’t have your ballot, you can still vote, but you will have to fill out an affidavit of no ballot cast before receiving a ballot. To check the status of your mailed ballot, log into mvp.vermont.gov. You will be able to see if the ballot has been received by the clerk’s office.
In-Person Voting:
For individuals voting in person on Election Day, please remember that campaigning is prohibited within the polling place, including wearing clothing featuring any candidate's name.
Voter Registration:
Residents who haven't yet registered or have recently moved to the City of Essex Junction since their last vote will need to register. Registration can be completed at the City Office, online at olvr.vermont.gov, or at the polling place for same-day registration. To register, residents will need their Vermont driver's license number or the last four digits of their social security number.
Questions and Assistance:
If you have any questions about the election process, please reach out to the City Clerk's Office at clerks@essexjunction.org or 802-878-6944 (option 7).
